And therein lies the problem. It is impossible to prove conclulsively that Lincoln did not suffer from a mental illness, be it severe or otherwise. Yet there is evidence, however circumstantial, that he did. As a historian, I have to use the evidence as it exists, and there is enough to convince me. If I could read a primary source that showed otherwise, I would be more than willing to change my mind. I have yet to find that primary source.
