The Case For Mrs. Surratt
Written by Helen Jones Campbell in 1943.
I've had this book for over 20 years and have never read it until now. A very one sided book, in favor of Mrs. Surratt. According to this writer, Mrs. Surratt was as innocent as a dove, and everyone on the union side was as guilty as sin. Stanton, Johnson, the Military Commission, Weichman, were downright sinister, cowards, and a long list of other negative adjectives. A work of historical? fiction, it is easy to follow, but I just got tired of it. It's so opinionated in Mrs. Surratt's innocence, it's difficult to tell how much, and which details are true or not. Not long into the book, I quit noting the questionable passages and gave up, and just kept reading. It's not one I will read again, or refer back to. Other than that.... You can find it on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/case-Surratt-Hele...s+campbell So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |
