For those who haven't read it, Terry Alford discusses Kate's co-appearance with Booth in Fortune's Fool. Kate played Juliet in November 1860 in Montgomery, Alabama. Her father, who was also her manager, was so impressed by her co-star Booth that he considered engaging the young man for a tour of England, but nothing came of this, and the two did not appear together again. Kate, who died in 1917 after a long career on the stage, recalled her Romeo as "really a beautiful creature--you couldn't help admiring him--so amiable, so sweet, so sympathetic."
