Most horses don't! Two of mine lived to age 28 and 32 respectively....with 32 being the usual oldest age. Purebread horses don't live as long usually as grade or "mixed breed" horses. My purebred quarterhorse mare lived to be only 28, while my quarterhorse mix lived to the ripe old age of 32. Ponies can live into their 40s with the oldest on record being about 45 years of age, I think. My sister has a Shetland pony, which she keeps as a pet companion for her large horse, who is approximately 35-38 years old or so the girl who sold him to her stated.....
