When Lee surrendered at Appomatox he made a point of riding in personally and not sending a subordinate. He remembered well what his own father said about the UK surrendering to George Washington at Yorktown. That it left a bad taste in his father General Lee's mouth when the english sent in their most junior officer to surrender at Yorktown. As we arrive at Washington's birthday, I don't wonder that ere long we see, in the North, the surviving statues of Washington torn down, streets and school names changed. And the great valor of these Rebel Patriots shuttered from public view, there.
