What would Lincoln say about the present day elections for President for 2016?

I don't want to comment on US politicians nor what Lincoln would have thought, but about journalists, he allegedly said the following (to Mrs. Wells):
"That is to say, they 'lie', and then they 're-lie'." (F. Carpenter: "Six Months...", p.156)

I always believed that they were supposed to be objective reporters of the news, not the news makers themselves.
