The uniqueness of Lincoln's beard

I don't know if there is any real meaning to it, but the earliest written words we have from Lincoln were scribbled in the margin of his school book. Lincoln was in his teens when he wrote:

"Abraham Lincoln, his hand and pen, he will be good but god knows When."
