RE: "Lost" Speeches and Agrapha
Matt,
The Collected Works that Roger references is online and allows the user to search in several different ways. Also, Ida Tarbell wrote a fictionalized account of Lincoln's Lost Speech for the American Magazine called "Back There in '58." She had been embarrassed after Henry Whitney claimed he had a copy of the speech which was verified by Chicago Tribune publisher Joseph Medill. However, many contemporaries dismissed Whitney's claims and subsequent historians agreed, proving Whitney's version to be a fraud. Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell
I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg
