Lincoln's Melancholy

I read the book about 10 years ago and enjoyed it, although I don't remember too much. One thing I do remember is that the author researched Lincoln's relatives and found sufficient evidence of mental troubles that he felt Lincoln's predisposition to depression/melancholy was most likely genetic.

This is something I've also suspected about him for years. It makes it even more compelling that he was attracted to and eventually married a woman with a genetic disposition to emotional instability.
