Appomattox

Always wanted to visit Appomattox and one day I'll do it. I was recently re-reading my great-grandfather's 1920s pension application to the state of Florida and it mentioned he was mustered out of the Confederate army in Appomattox at the end of hostilities, having retreated with his outfit from Petersburg.

I'm not to be trusted with military info and such, but I think he (Peyton Page) was a private (horse-shoer) in Company A of the First North Carolina Calvary. He did get his pension from the state of Florida, which I think was $26 a month, later raised to $40 a month.
