RE: "Stump the Yankee"
Well, according to this website, at least one sock was sold in 1924.
Clothes Lincoln Wore When Killed Sold at Auction Philadelphia , Feb. 19 [1924]—Clothes worn by Abraham Lincoln when he was assassinated in Ford's theater, Washington, by John Wilkes Booth, today were sold at public auction here for $6,500. They consisted of an old black suit, the collar stained with the life blood of the martyred president, the trousers wrinkled; a badly torn overcoat and a faded silk sock. Mr. Lincoln's clothes have been around. None the less, they are still in pretty good shape. Anywhere near right? Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell
I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg
