Your personal choice of actors who have portrayed Lincoln

Oh, of cs. McGlynn in "Pris. of Shark Island"! That film, despite its corn and historic liberties about Dr. Mudd, remains my favt. Lincoln movie. I know I should be ashamed of myself for that, but I'm not. I wish it was historically correct, of course. McGlynn was Irish, and in some of his films as Lincoln a tiny brogue can be detected. Mark and I noticed it in a short called "Lincoln in the White House," in which he recited the Gettysburg Address! McGlynn played character roles in quite a few movies, too, by the way.

Mr. Peck himself forgot that he played Lincoln on radio until I reminded him. [Hallmark Playhouse.] I sent him a cassette recording of it, which he took the time to listen to. He wrote to thank me and to tell me he had forgotten all about it and wondered why the director didn't have him use some sort of "rustic" accent. "Oh, well," he wrote, "it's all in the past. I don't think we put any dents in Mr. Lincoln's reputation."

There's a NY State Lottery commercial running these days, showing Washington, Lincoln, Jackson, Grant, and Ben Franklin having a great time at a nighttime beach party with the young crowd. The resemblances to their counterparts -- especially Lincoln -- is fantastic. (However, I detected that only Abe seems to have had a bit too much to drink, which I didn't feel very good about.) I'll have to try to grab it on the DVR one of these nights.
