I read the Steers chapter on Tripp with interest. Some of the particulars elude me at the moment but I recall thinking that he indulged in the same approach for which so many critics faulted Tripp: selective choice of evidence. With all due respect I'll repeat what I said about Bill Hanchett's challenge, but with a tweak: no one has systematically rebutted Tripp. Including David Donald, who issued "We Are Lincoln Men": Abraham Lincoln and His Friends as a kind of preemptive strike.
