RE: Lincoln and Ann Rutledge
I'm with you Laurie.
The fact that Lincoln was in love or not in love with Ann Rutledge does not mean he did not love Mary. David, you make some good points, but Herndon, for what ever reason, had an agenda. And I believe he seriously slanted some good research to fit his purpose. Coincidently I'm reading the Tarbell book you mentioned. It's pretty good. And I also think that the Randall book is a bit slanted in Mary's favor. Since I'm not a trained historian like some of you, I just have to go with what sounds like the best argument and I accept opinions from both sides. There are resources that Randall used that were not available to Herndon. There are sources avialable today that were not avaialbel to Randall. I'm still listening, and one day I may hear something that will change my mind. I see in Lincoln's actions to Mary that he loved her. I see in the way she acted, that she loved him. All of this reminds me of a song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViMF510wqWA So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |
