At the Lincoln Museum in Springfield, there was part of an exhibit that had some very tacky and unfavorable comments about Mrs. Lincoln's fashion style, (or lack of it), especially comments about low necklines. They were vicious. Her critics would have fit right in with Joan Rivers and the Fashion Police.
