RE: Removing Confederate Generals portraits?
I'm not sure I understand who this "vendetta" is being conducted against. Given that the Confederate States of America no longer exists, it can't be them. Given that not all Southerners today believed in what the CSA did, it can't be them either.
As for those who were defeated and "became part of the Union again" I must have studied another Civil War, since that doesn't describe most of those wedded to the "lost cause" who were far more numerous than those preaching reconciliation. I would recommend reading Caroline Janney or David Blight to see just how far from being a "part of the Union" many were.
