There is another reference to religion in the Gettysburg Address besides the " under God " phrase that I just learned about because of this thread and wanted to pass along. The lines, "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." Contained a reference that Christians in this era may have recognized.
