RE: Springfield Tour
As a child in Illinois it was pretty much a state law that we had to visit the Springfield sites (anyone remember when they were called the Lincoln Shrines?). I'm looking forward to being there although Friday morning I'm going to run away and take advantage of my location to do some research on my book at the Lincoln Presidential Library. My wife will represent me in the morning. However, I will join the group when it goes to New Salem. It's been nearly 40 years since I've been there.
Oh, and anyone who comes can also wish me a happy 50th birthday (which actually will be the week before on Oct. 1). Anyone looking to get me a present my size is $20s and $50s. Seriously, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone who is planning to attend. I can't think of any better way to spend my birthday and to make the year I've had so far much better. Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell
