RE: Carl Sandburg and Lincoln
Bill,
This is a new one on me. Not that it's impossible, of course, but I don't recall ever hearing that Sandburg had a fondness for ink blots, but then again it has been a few years since I read Nivens, so it's possible she might have said something, if she mentioned it at all. I have a lot of the correspondence between Newman and Sandburg, and one thing I've noticed is that the signature of the card does appear to be genuine. Newman made his "R" look almost like a large "P" and Sandburg's writing looks just like the thousands of examples I've looked at so far. Is it worth the asking price? Not to me, it isn't, but I only collect things for utilitarian purposes. Rarely do I get something just because I want to have it in my collection, if you could even call what I have a "collection." But there might be someone who feels that having something from Sandburg like that would be worth it. Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell
I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg
