I am coming home!-Gollihu Hawks 29th Va.
Up until now all of stories that I have posted were about Union Soldiers. This one is my favorite ancestor story.Gollihu Hawks was 35yr old mountain man with no slaves. He was wounded at the Battle of Dinwiddie Court House, just before the war ended. He wrote to his wife and children.Dear Nancy Ann,"They are letting me come home as I was shot[no worry] and Peace will be made soon at Appomatox."Plant the corn, plant the big potato patch."Don't talk to strangers".G.Hawks.-March 19th,1865.
