(Sorry 'bout that.) I'm back on line after over 3 weeks of "Tech Support". This situation gave me tim to read CHARLES HIGHAM's "MURDERING MR> LINCOLN" (A dissapointment)
Pg 194. "John Patts Brown, father of Josephine Brown". I konw him as John POTTS Brown. Pg 194. "Lt. Charles Keyworth, of the Signal Corps" KEYWORTH ? Pleeze! Higham probably got that from someone else - he didn't research Cawood, or he makes careless notes.
Pg 226. "Augustus Howell...reported that Surratt had used his position as a employee of the Commissary General of Prisoners, to pass on information to him and for Surratt to convey to Richmond."
Might that not be Weichmann with the Commissary General????

Overall, I liked the book, borrowed through Inter-Library Loan. But the errors make me reluctant to cite his book as reference. There was much about the "New York Crowd". I agree with his conclusion that the "Copperheads" were only a 'Paper" organization and there wern't any THOUSANDS ready to rise-up and fight.
The obits of Charles Higham revealed his mendacity. Errol Flynn's family sued Higham for claiming Flynn was a a Nazi spy. It was found that Higham faked documents to prove his case. The courts threw out the lawsuit on the grounds that the dead have no legal redress to libel or slander.
