Lee Marvin was named after Robert E. Lee- and is a cousin to the General. He is a decorated World War II veteran of the U. S. Marines. He is one of my favorite actors. Personal favorite: The Dirty Dozen- great movie.

I loved him in the comedy Cat Ballou! That was one movie I could convince my father to go see (he only liked comedies like the ones of yore with Martin & Lewis, Ma&Pa Kettle, Francis, The Talking Mule). He howled with laughter all the way through. The mental picture of drunken Marvin on his horse leaning against that building will stick with me always.

Laurie: that scene is etched in my mind too. He had several memorable roles. He played an outstanding villain in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence.

Hilarious. Thanks for the flashback. It brought back memories of my having a crush on Michael Callan (but I can't remember now what else he played in) and it was nice to see Dwayne Hickman again (Doby Gillis?)

It also reminds me of the good old days when one got enjoyment out of a movie without having to think what it meant or figure out your own ending... Or come out of the theater with a headache from all the noise.

Before I leave off Lee Marvin- just wanted to say that I remember he guest starred on the excellent TV series Combat! (One if my favorite shoes) as a hardened Sargent who was led to a bridge by the squad to blow up a German bridge. It is classic Lee Marvin.

Dave: you rock. I also found it fascinating that Russell Johnson was a WWII recipient of the Purple Heart and that he knew and worked with WWII's most decorated soldier Audie Murphy. Great job Dave!
