RE: Who Said This?
Who called Herndon -" the 'master myth-maker' of all Lincoln literature" ?

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

RE: Who Said This?
Just about everyone?

Seriously, my first guess would be David Donald. Second guess would be just about everyone.

Excellent guess, that was fast.
However, David Donald is not the person who I quoted.
But your are one person closer with your second guess.

RE: Who Said This?
All good guesses, but not quite correct.

It's time for a clue.
Our mystery person never met Lincoln or Herndon, they were no longer alive when our mystery person was born.

RE: Who Said This?
"... it appears that William Henry Herndon, instead of attaining the roll [sic] of another Boswell, has become the master Lincoln mythmaker."
-- Louis A. Warren, "Herndon's Contribution to Lincoln Mythology," Indiana Magazine of History, Vol. 41, No. 3, (September 1945), p. 223.

I think Steve is correct.

RE: Who Said This?
Very good, that wasn't who I was looking for, but you have given proof that Warren wrote that (before my person wrote it)
I will happily acknowledge your answer as the winning one.

Congratulations.
Your prize is a free Cozy Dog (and you don't have to share, you each get your own) at the next Springfield Tour.
However, you must be present to win. And that's not all. You also get a free admission to Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site.
(And that's not something you can win on Wheel of Fortune.)

RE: Who Said This?
You didn't miss it.
It was John J Duff author of A Lincoln Prairie Lawyer

He was a lawyer from New York and as far as I can tell, the only book he wrote. Published in 1960 it is one of the best books on
Lincoln's law career. When I finish reading it, I will post more about it.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?
