No Googling, please.

After Lee's surrender at the McLean house in Appomattox, Major General Edward Otho Cresap Ord purchased the surrender table at which Gen. Lee sat. How much did he give McLean for it?

Yes, sir! Good job!

Although at least one report (from McLean family members) stated the room was simply plundered, more state that Ord gave McLean $40 - the entire contents of his wallet - for the table where Lee sat. Gen. Phil Sheridan bought the table where Grant was seated for $20 in gold. Adjusted for inflation, $40 in 1865 is worth $770.98 today.

The Ord table today is in the Chicago Historical Society along with the actual bed Lincoln died in.

The Grant table is in the Smithsonian.

One more famous furniture question.
No Googling again. For you heathens that do that sort of thing.....

In 1929, fed up with the Gov't's "because we can attitude" and using as a precedent the suit against the Feds filed by the heirs of Jefferson Davis' that petitioned for the return of his property, Harry Clay Ford's widow Blanche appealed to the Gov't for the return of the rocker Lincoln was seated in when he was shot. She won and put the chair up for auction. It was purchased by antique dealer Israel Sacks, who offered it to Henry Ford. (No relation the the Ford's Theater Fords). Ford bought it, but for how much?

I feel like I'm playing The Price Is Right.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?
