RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
Sorry guys, but no.

Clue: It was said of this man (not by Tarbell), that he identified with Lincoln so strongly throughout his career, that he wouldn't think it a proper ending unless he was assassinated.

Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom.

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
Correct Steve. It was Raymond Massey. Tarbell made the comment in a letter she wrote to a fellow member of the Pen and Brush Club. Massey had told Tarbell that he would be happy to speak before the club in 1939. Tarbell met Massey during one of his Broadway performances of "Abe Lincoln in Illinois." After watching the film at the White House, with Massey in the audience, FDR praised the movie and added concerning Lincoln "and just think, he wrote his own speeches."

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
This one could be easy or not. Please, however, no Googling.

Who is the gentleman standing next to Tarbell (and no, I don't mean the Lincoln statue!).

To the best of my knowledge he has been mentioned a few times, but not often.

Gene,

Sorry, but it isn't Beveridge.

Steve, I don't know of any connection to FDR.

Clue#1. He isn't a historian in the classical sense.

I do not remember ever seeing a photo of Emanuel Hertz; thus, I will guess him.

Didnt she write a "biography" of a major company? (at risk of showing my ignorance here) and this could be the owner?

Mike,

She did write biographies of Elbert Gary and Owen D. Young, but this is neither.

Clue#2. This person's child was as well-known as he was.
