Fascinating! I had seen the photo before but never knew the story as told in the video. I was curious what else was on the web, and there are photos of both the man on the far left and the far right here:

Very interesting! But it was not as safe as these workers make it seem. A number of them fell to their death during the construction of the building.

My great-grandfather was a worker who helped build skyscrapers in New York City. Unfortunately, he was severely injured on the job about a year before that photograph was taken.

A really good video with lots of excellent photographs.

As regards courage and bravery, think of the young men who go into combat . . . even during the American Civil War.

"This extraordinary war in which we are engaged falls heavily upon all classes of people, but the most heavily upon the soldier. For it has been said, all that a man hath will he give for his life; and while all contribute of their substance, the soldier puts his life at stake, and often yields it up in his country's cause. The highest merit, then, is due to the soldier."

-- Address at Sanitary Fair, March 16, 1864

"So very difficult a matter is it to trace and find out the truth of anything by history." -- Plutarch

As the daughter of a career military man (a "lowly non-com"), who served during WWII and the Korean War, I thank you for posting that quote, David.

Yes, great quote-and so true. Forunately, there are many that still honor our military. Unfortunately, there are many that do not.
