RE: Seed Pearl Necklace and Bracelets
Well, I think it certainly looked nice on Mary, and she most likely loved it.

If possible it would add facts to the discussion. Thank you sincerely, Eva, for your suggestion. But I just don’t believe it (biometric analysis or photographic overlays) would be in any way beneficial to the process of authentication. As you are probably aware, the owners of the Hoffman and Kaplan dags pursued that avenue in an attempt to bolster their claims to no avail. There is, however, a world of difference between those dags and the Abe & Mary dag. The Hoffman and Kaplan dags are singular upper-torso shots without the visual evidence necessary to authenticate them, regardless of whether either of the images actually depict Lincoln. The Abe & Mary dag has all of the visual evidence necessary to authenticate for any objective individual willing to provide more than a cursory examination in conjunction with a substantial knowledge of the physical characteristics and subtle nuances of both Abraham and Mary Lincoln. It is my firm belief that at some point the dag will be authenticated by an entity unencumbered by the subjective beliefs that are so pervasive in the Lincoln community, and that the dismissive observations and negative commentary by said Lincoln community will actually play a positive pivotal role in the outcome. |

RE: Seed Pearl Necklace and Bracelets
I'm not aware of any of the background or persons involved and not any bit interested in nor anyhow biased.
If you ask me whether the couple in the pic linked to resembles Abraham and Mary Lincoln as you did (asking for opinions) - frankly I do not see a resemblance beyond similar hairdo (resembling most of those days). As for facial features I see zero. The gentleman if at all a bit reminds me of Ninian Edwards but not so close that I'd think he is. C'est ça. Just the way it is. (I also doubt in between the "known" photo sessions in her life Mary had ever had such bony skeleton hands (where's the wedding ring btw?) and XXS size. If so - what an amazing weight loss, and unfortunately short-lived). |

The Lincoln community makes no distinction between ‘opinion’,...... and concise, FACTUAL, delineated commentary IN SUPPORT of one’s opinion. BTW, where is the wedding band, you ask? Do you hear a series of loud BOOMS in the background? Well don’t be alarmed......that’s just me putting a series of extraordinarily large exclamation marks on a famous Johnny Mac utterance with a sixteen pound sledgehammer. |

Where are your facts? Did I miss? (I really don't understand most of your talking, sorry. Maybe a language issue.)
PS: I seemed to recall she never took her wedding ring off and was buried with it. I may be wrong. Donna (the Mary expert) will know. (And I am still curious as for Mary's instant emaciating diet recipe. Would sell I guess.) |

Yes, Mary was buried wearing her wedding ring. As far as her diet plan . . . Mary did lose a lot of weight when she lived in France. She wrote to her nephew, Lewis Baker, saying that her current weight was 100 lb. Of course, this was during her widowhood, not her White House years. |

Don't be alarmed, that's just me putting a few extraordianarily large exclamation marks on a famous Lincoln utterance when he saw the price tag on the Seed Pear Necklace and Bracelets, and Mary's inaugural gown. So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

According to the card included in the display, it is not known when Mary received the necklace from Lincoln, but it likely was at their anniversary during one of their years in Washington. The necklace was purchased at Tiffany's in New York. It has 28 diamonds, which weigh almost 5 carats, on a gold cable chain. The story in family lore is that Lincoln said, upon giving Mary the necklace, "With this heart you have my heart." |

RE: Seed Pearl Necklace and Bracelets
Usually you would wear it on the right hand (left during engagement), I think it is also visible in the very first daguerreotype (later she used to wear gloves...)
PS: Obviously you have no explanation for the extreme sudden short-lived weigh loss. |

You say she wore her wedding band... To the starboard side of port???!!! Well I really have to take a stand... And disagree with that retort! I hope you said that tongue-in-cheek, Cause I’m up to snuff on rings... So listen closely while I speak... And I’ll fetch you up on things! The Russians, Poles, & Hungarians, Well they wear em on the right... Same with the Croats, Serbs, & Huns... And Czechs and Moldovites. But over here across the pond... We all know right from wrong... And we don’t much cotton to gettin conned... About where that ring belongs. The ladies here in the USA... They don’t do it quite the same... And I doubt you have a proven way... To justify your claim. I hope by now you understand... Since I’m sharing what I know... ‘Tis never worn on either hand... But waaaay down south...and low... THAT’S RIGHT! You heard me loud and clear! They wear em on their TOE... You can take that to the bank, my dear... Or my name isn’t Mo! Of this, I’m absolutely sure! I’ve not been wrong as yet. But don’t thank me, thank Albert Gore, Cause I found it on the net! |

Donna, while I don't frequently agree with you, I enjoyed your humorous reply.
So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |
