Bogus Picture
Several years ago this photo was in circulation on the Internet. The two men were incorrectly identified as men whose names are very familiar to us. What two familiar names am I referring to?

My gosh, asked at 10:34 and answered at 10:35. You are correct, Joe.
You win the rope they found in Spangler's carpetbag. |

RE: Bogus Picture
Neat! If it weren't for the Union uniforms, I'd say that man is a dead ringer for Powell. Betty?

He does bear somewhat of a resemblance to "My Boy"....but with the Yankee uniform and hefting that BIG mug of Brewski.....I would have to say definitely NO! Jennie, I now live in Florida, but I did live in Illinois for over 50 years. It almost seems as if each of these two states tries to beat the other when it comes to "weird things." I keep trying to forget the hanging chads, but then I awake in the middle of the night screaming with this image in my brain:

I was gonna say the guy on the right would be claimed as Powell. What's he doing in Union uniform?

Wouldn't be Powell cause he'd not be in Union uniform -- wait! I take that back....when he escaped from Wests' Buildings Hospital in 1863, he was wearing Union uniform thanks to his girlfriends who supplied him with same and bribed the guards to let him go! I, however, don't think he had time to get a beer and his photo taken before skedaddling through the lines! "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |

Good one Betty! And thanks for the reminder that Powell indeed donned Federal clothing!
