Excellent site on the Wirtz Execution - November 1865
I had a chance to speak a bit on the Wirtz execution this weekend - and have found an excellent site which details just that. The author, one Andy Hall, describes the execution scenes in sequence with a fine take-off on what's happening in each of Gardner's photos much as our own Barry Cauchon has done with the Lincoln Conspirator hanging photos -

Apparently associated with the infamous Andersonville Prison!! http://www.historyspaces.com/u-s-history...of-a-word/ "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. RE: Excellent site on the Wirtz Execution - November 1865
As some of you know, Betty serves as a guide at the restored military courtroom at Ft. McNair when it is open to the public. Such was the case this past Saturday, August 5.
I was privy to an email that the Public Affairs Office at the Fort received after a busload of historians (well-versed in all things Civil War) visited that day. A retired colonel, who conducts many history-related tours around the country, sent a glowing report on what a wonderful and knowledgeable historian Betty is and how her handling of the history and the attending questions was great. Those of us who know and love Betty already knew her many talents, but it is so nice to hear that others are benefitting from her knowledge. |

Betty, I couldn't imagine a better guide on the site - as passionate, charismatic and knowledgeable as you are!

Love the background tid-bits on expressions in our language still used today.

Henry Wirz also took the blame for some atrocities committed by those in higher positions. Some things never change in this world.
