RE: Extra Credit Questions
Too low, Laurie. Gene got it --> the answer is on Finnigan's page:

http://iltomb.org/faq.html

"The State of Illinois donated $50,000, the largest single amount. The States of New York, Missouri, Nevada, and Nebraska each donated $10,000, $1,000, $500, and $500, respectively."

Gene, you win best wishes for a wonderful January day.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
Another thread discusses "Lincoln Borne By Loving Hands", which was painted by Carl Bersch. He also painted this gentleman. Who is he?

RE: Extra Credit Questions
A brilliant guess, Roger, but, sorry, not correct.

Hint #1: Bersch painted this in 1860.

Hint #2: He was a nobleman.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
Kudos, Roger, that is correct. His Serene Highness Otto Eduard Leopold Prince of Bismarck, High Born Count of Bismarck-Schönhausen and Duke of Lauenburg created the first welfare state in the modern world. British PM Benjamin Disraeli said of him: "Be careful of that man—he means every word he says".

Roger, you win the #2 popular German fast food - a fish bun with Bismarck herring, exclusively served by our current chancellor in appropriate location (a beach wicker chair):

Staying in the German theme: If you read the story of the Arabia in the OTHER posting, some of the 1850s treasures found in the remains were Frozen Charlottes. What were these?

Little dolls, named for a poem about a young lady who goes out for a ride and freezes to death because she was too proud of her dress to wrap up warmly.
