Surratt House Holiday Open House
I figured since 97.1 WASH Fm started playing Christmas Music this morning, I should help spread the word about the 2015 Holiday event at the Surratt House. The calendar of events says the house will be decorated for the Holidays, a discount in the gift shop will be offered, and cider and cookies will be available for visitors to sample. It runs December 2-13, 2015. I hope to see you there! I will get more details about the Victorian Christmas at the Mudd Home and post them on the forum when I get them. I apologize for any errors!

The house will be decorated for the two weeks that Thomas has indicated, with a special open house on Saturday, December 12, from noon to 4 pm with the gift shop sales, refreshments, and such.

The best part of the holiday theme this year is a special exhibit of Civil War-era dolls and toys throughout the period rooms. These are displayed by two private collectors. We also publish a special Christmas booklet for our visitors. If interested in receiving a copy, please let me know.

Quick question for Laurie: Do you take checks for the Surratt Society conference? I'm thinking about registering when I come tomorrow.

Thanks for adding these, Thomas. You got better shots of what the full rooms looked like than the photos I posted that dealt chiefly with the dolls. The first photo gives the full vignette of the Winterbottoms and a great view of the Mary Lincoln doll. I'm also glad that you got some good photos of Aunt Rachel's room over the kitchen where she worked as a domestic slave.

And, I'm so glad that you joined the Society and are proudly showing your card in a selfie!

RE: Surratt House Holiday Open House
97.1 WASH FM starts it's Christmas Music up Friday at 5 PM, so it's time to focus on this years open house at Surrattsville. This year the Museum will have period decorations, cookies and cider, a holiday discount in the museum store, and special exhibits and activities including a special appearance from YouTube Historian Thomas Kearney, whose channel, The Lincoln Assassination: Behind The History, launches February 12 (just got to pass the appearance by museum management) on December 10. The tour still has the admission charge except when there are special events and is free to Surratt Society members. Laurie can fix any errors I made (if any).
