Image of John W. Clampitt
Hello all,
For those interested, here is an image of John W. Clampitt. I think there are only 1 or 2 other images of him available. This one came from Genealogy.com. |

He's a whale of a guy! Thanks, John - never seen this before! "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |

RE: Image of John W. Clampitt
I think this is the only other one I had seen before:
Does anyone else have a different version? |

RE: Image of John W. Clampitt
A relative of Mr. Clampitt was at the dedication of Frederick Aiken's tombstone a few years back and said that he would send some papers that he had. That was the last we heard from him. I have never seen either of these photos of Clampitt.
As an aside, I found it ironic that a Clampitt relative should come to the Aiken dedication since Mr. Clampitt forged checks against their law firm... |

RE: Image of John W. Clampitt
Here's the only SUPPOSED image we have of Aiken. Could it have been mistakenly attributed to him instead of Clampitt? There is a slight resemblance.

RE: Image of John W. Clampitt
I remember questioning that several years ago. For some reason, I thought it too old for Aiken in 1865.

Many thanks to Jim Garrett for sending this image of Clampitt. It's from When Lincoln Died by Ralph Borreson. Credit to Lloyd Ostendorf.
