RE: Who is this lady?
Too late! I just wanted to ask: "Who is this lady?":
...but Roger was much faster (see post #153)! I "came across her" when reading in a book that during the Lincoln-Douglas debates Douglas "was accompanied by his beautiful wife". I was curious as for the beauty of this lady, and found this nice site: http://civilwarwomenblog.com/adele-douglas/ PS: IMO Mary wasn't any less beautiful: |

RE: Who is this lady?
That's one Mrs. Herndon, I'm quite sure the first, Mary, who was considered as one of the beauties of her time, and I believe a relative sketched that.

RE: Who is this lady?
Superb, Eva! That is a sketch of the second Mrs. Herndon - Anna Miles Herndon. I have never seen an image of the first wife - Mary Maxcy Herndon. And apparently the only image of the second wife is this sketch. Source of sketch - the page opposite p. 258 in Donald's book on Herndon.
Eva, you win a 30 minute séance with a medium (Nettie Colburn) who will conjure up the spirit of William Herndon. Through the medium you will be able to question Herndon on any topics of your choice for a full half hour. |

RE: Who is this lady?
Eva,
Please question Billy Herndon for only 29 minutes. Use the remaining one minute to punch him in the nose for me and Mrs. Lincoln! |

RE: Who is this lady?
I think I have seen that photo before somewhere and think it might be Lucy Hale when she was older.

RE: Who is this lady?
Excellent, Roger! Although I was not successful in submitting last Saturday's prize in time, I'll try again - you win my best wishes for your favorite's victory this "sports" weekend.

RE: Who is this lady?
Thank you, Eva. The Chicago Bears have a bye this weekend, so at least I do not have to suffer through another embarrassing defeat.
