Lincoln Wallet
Recently, I talked with a leather company of the possibility of a replica of Lincoln's Wallet (the original in the Library of Congress). I was wondering if anyone knows the actual size and measurements of the wallet. A replica of Lincoln's Wallet, along with the upcoming replica of Lincoln's Pocket Knife would make fine items for the Lincoln collector or Lincoln Presenter.

RE: Lincoln Wallet
That's a great idea. I hope it gets acted on. I did order the knife but haven't gotten it yet.

RE: Lincoln Wallet
Hi Bill, please excuse that I'm so curious (no need to reply) - you seem to have quite a collection, what is your craziest item? And which do you like best (and why)?
Anyone else's "report" is appreciated, too! |

RE: Lincoln Wallet
Eva: hmm... I'll have to think about that one! I do have a large collection. Half of my house on the first floor is the "Lincoln room." Sometimes I refer to it as my home Lincoln museum.

RE: Lincoln Wallet
Was the Confederate five dollar found Lincoln was carrying actually in his wallet?

RE: Lincoln Wallet
Bill, according to the information I have, the wallet contained a Confederate 5 dollar bill and 8 or 9 old newspaper clippings. I have seen sources that say 8 and others say 9. I do not know which number is correct.

RE: Lincoln Wallet
Thank you Roger. I didn't know if the paper money was actually in his wallet or found in one of his coat pockets.

Yes,Lincoln got the Confederate $5 Dollar Bill in Richmond with Grant when the war ended.

RE: Lincoln Wallet
According to the Library of congress, the size of Lincoln's Wallet is: 3-3/4 inches high, opens out to 6-15/16 inches wide, and folds twice to the width of 2-1/4 inches. The size of Lincoln's $5.00 Confederate Bill is 7-1/8 inches wide, and 3 inches high.

RE: Lincoln Wallet
From the pictures of the Confederate bill- it didnt appear to have been folded. I wonder if dicuments state it was actually in the wallet itself.

RE: Lincoln Wallet
That's for sure Herb. I own two Confederate bills of that type. They seem very thin compared to our notes. It would be easy when folding them to leave creases.
