Bizarre Depictions of Lincoln
I still have my unopened box containing the Abraham Lincoln Chia Head. I should probably take it out and grow it-I know Lincoln would start to look really bizarre. What other weird depictions of Lincoln are there out there? This link gives its list of 10 bizarre pop culture depictions of Lincoln: http://guycodeblog.mtv.com/2012/06/21/bi...m-lincoln/

Bill, I think I posted this once before, but I think this is a weird depiction:

Good morning, Betty. It's from Fred Smith's Wisconsin Concrete Park.

Note to self: don't miss Fred's park on summer vacation this year.

RE: Bizarre Depictions of Lincoln
Now that definitely qualifies as "bizarre!"

I found this blog called "Planet of the Abes." I love the title! Anyway, I don't see anything on the site having to do with Lincoln. However, after you get there by following this link: http://planetoftheabes.com/ --- Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Peek-a-boo!

Thank goodness Lincoln was not a concrete thinker.

RE: Bizarre Depictions of Lincoln
From Bob Cook:

Totum Poles used for public ridicule are usually called "shame poles", and were created to shame individuals or groups for unpaid debts. They are often placed in prominent locations. Shame poles are rarely discussed today, and their meanings have been forgotten in many places. They formed an important subset of poles carved throughout the 19th century.

One famous shame pole is the William Henry Seward Pole in Saxman, Alaska. It was apparently created to shame the former U.S. Secretary of State for not repaying a potlatch to the Tlingit people. The intent of the shame pole was indicated by the figure's nose and ears being painted red, to indicate his stinginess. It is a common misconception that the Lincoln pole, also located in Saxman, is a shame pole, but it was erected to commemorate the U.S Revenue Cutter Lincoln in its role in helping two rival Tlingit clans establish peace.

So the shame pole of Seward was made by the Tlingit people?

RE: Bizarre Depictions of Lincoln
I did a quick internet search on purchasing a Lincoln Smurf. It is highly collectable. The little plastic guy is selling for about $55.00. I don't own one and don't feel compelled to spend that kind of money for one. Still, to each his own-as they say.
