New Kindle version of Booth escape - Ed Steers - 07-16-2012 01:29 PM

I have rewritten the popular "Escape and Capture of John Wilkes Booth" from a guide booklet into an expanded digital book. It was originally used to accompany the Booth escape tour. My hope is that it will guide the reader down the escape trail with all the information needed to understand why Booth sought help in Canada, went to Mudd, and why the Confederate Mail Line was used as Booth's escape route. It can be purchased from Amazon for $2.99. Simply search under Edward Steers or "Escape and Capture of John Wilkes Booth." The blue booklet is the old guide; the soft grey book is the new expanded Kindle version. I was urged to do this since the short, guide version (blue cover) has sold over 20,000 copies since first issued. The $2.99 version is much cheaper, and considerably expanded. Many thanks for looking. Ed Steers

Fantastic, Ed! I have your original book -- now I'll get the eBook!

Dr. Steers, thank you for letting us know about the new expanded version. I am one of the 20,000+ owners of the previous version and will upgrade. Also, kudos on the 20,000+!

Are there plans for a printed version that we can sell in the Surratt book store?

RE: New Kindle version of Booth escape - Ed Steers - 07-16-2012 06:18 PM

Dear Laurie, I don't think so. Thomas has published the booklet for years and when I decided to rewrite and expand it I thought he would jump at it. However, he said the booklet was selling so well why change a good thing. This is why I decided to go digital. I can publish on my own and expand the book as much as I want. I am now workng on digitizing "His Name Is Still Mudd" (long out of print) and will launch it on Amazon as an eBook. Maybe someday we can resurrect the tombstone/graves book - what do you think?

I would love to resurrect that great tombstone book - will your lawyer also represent the Surratt House and me this time?

It will be good to have that book on Kindle - because I have it on my iPhone and can take it with me.....

What is the "tombstone book?" Sounds great!

For propriety's sake, I will not discuss the tombstone book. It is now "deceased." Suffice to say, both Dr. Steers, the Surratt House, and I were threatened with a lawsuit over that book. It was one of the most frustrating and infuriating experiences of my life. All I can say is "Beware of 'Friends.'"

Oooohhhh....didn't mean to bring it up! Sounds good, though!

That is such great news Ed!

Thank you, Bill. I hope you find it useful. I will also be posting "His Name Is Still Mudd" in a week or so. The book is long out of print and I thought I might revive it as a digital book (since I do not own a publishing company).

I realize it's a long shot, but any chance that these will be released on Apple's iBookstore at some point? I'd love to get them, but I hate having to double up apps on my iDevices.

Unfortunately I am only listing my eBooks on Amazon for the Kindle. I don't know how to use the other frames. Hopefully, I will get around to learning and list on the other forms. Ed

That's kind of what I figured. I realize ebooks are still very much a new thing.

Ed: I've been asked about your books becoming available in audiobook format-either as CD's or MP3 CD's. Any plans for that at all?
