I have worked with several people who do the "readings" for the production of audio books - mainly making sure that names of the conspirators and place names are pronounced correctly. That job appears to be a rather tedious and time-consuming one to me. I know that audio books are wonderful for people who spend a lot of time on the road and can listen while driving. And, of course they are a god-send to those with vision impairments. I hope they never get lost in the forest of computer screens (like regular books and telephones appear to be).

I bought LCH several years ago at the suggestion of Rick Smith. I emailed Bill two weeks ago that I was rereading it and have gained a greater appreciation for how good it is. Thank you Rick for the suggestion and the effort to Bill and Rick to put this book together.

I commend "LCH" to everyone for its brilliance and imagination. I have reservations about Wild Bill himself doing an audio book narration. It would be so mesmerizing,there would be too many auto fatalities.

I remember the day we met at Surratt House and discussed LCH among many other things. Glad that you enjoyed it enough to read it again. Thanks for your kind words, but Bill deserves all the credit as author. All I did was edit the revised version and get it printed. Like you, I have read LCH more than once and always enjoy it.

I will be getting LCH, but I'd also like to add a plug for another of Bill's books titled Sic Semper Tyrannis. The book really helps those of us brought up in states like Illinois (I was raised in Oak Park) have a much better understanding of Booth and his mindset. If I were still teaching, and were trying to give the students a more comprehensive perspective of the driving forces in Booth's mind, I would use Bill's book as a resource for this. I certainly recommend it. It could lead to a great class discussion in which the students compare/contrast Bill's book to what they are reading in their own textbook.

Excellent point, Roger! Bill's Sic Semper Tyrannis is also NOT to be missed....as a matter of fact, I wish I'd have had one of Bill's classes! I'd have Loved it!!

Surratt House Museum has opened its new exhibit entitled Between The Lines: Southern Maryland in the Civil War, which will run through December of 2014. It can serve as a complement to Bill's Sic Semper Tyrannis in that it discusses what life was like in this section during Union occupation of Maryland.

It's a wonderful read, Jim! Wild Bill really knows the Victorian era and his LCH really makes the conspiracy and past come alive!
