Hello! - ELCore - 02-14-2013 06:03 PM

I'm Lane. I'm so happy to have found a Lincoln message board!

I'm the admin of the Real Lincoln Quotes page on Facebook.

https://www.facebook.com/Real.Lincoln.Quotes

I felt impelled to start a page like that when the "Ten Cannots" had shown up in my newsfeed for the 3rd or 4th time, attributed to Lincoln. Aaaarrrggghhhhh!

All for now.

Glad to have you posting here and bless you for trying to straighten out what Mr. Lincoln did and did not say.

I found this quote on your site especially appropriate to the era in which we are currently struggling:

"The strongest bond of human sympathy, outside of the family relation, should be one uniting all working people, of all nations, and tongues, and kindreds. Nor should this lead to a war upon property, or the owners of property. Property is the fruit of labor—property is desirable—is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich, shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprize. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another; but let him labor diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built."

A good example of "the more things change, the more they remain the same."
