...while I was very disappointed by the "real" size of Monet's Water Lilies at the MoMA! I had always imagined the painting to be much bigger! (Well, in this regard, not much can beat Rembrandt's "Night Watch", I assume...)

What is the name of this First Lady?

Mrs. Taft?

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 07-09-2015 08:32 AM

Good try, Eva, but it's not Mrs. Taft.

I've never seen this particular photo, but it shows a very young lady, in my estimation. I'll guess an early picture of Frances Folsom Cleveland, I believe the youngest First Lady on record??

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 07-09-2015 09:56 AM

Another good try, Laurie, but it's not she.

Young Edith Roosevelt?

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 07-09-2015 03:19 PM

I am sorry, Eva, but it is not she either.

Ok, coloring cheeks according to this article dates farther back than I thought:

"Tinting an image was popular early on in the history of antique images, especially in the early 1860s. The most common type of tinting was a pinking of the cheeks to give the face a little healthy color. You will see pink cheeks on ambrotypes, cdvs, and tintypes."

So one might have to look for an earlier First Lady. The lady in the photo looks 20 or younger.

Mary McElroy (born in 1841)?

Great research, Eva! But it's not Mary McElroy.

Hint #1: Here is an image of this First Lady when she was quite young:

Ellen Arthur? (But she died before becoming a First Lady.)

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 07-10-2015 07:31 AM

That is another great guess, Eva, but it is not she.

Mrs. McKinley?

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 07-10-2015 09:55 AM

That's it, Laurie! Kudos!

There are numerous photos of Ida McKinley here.

Eva, you are a winner, too, for trying so hard. Both of you ladies win very best wishes for a wonderful weekend.

Congratualtions Laurie.
I Googled Ida McKinley, but I didn't see a good rememblence in any of her photo's I found.
