You are correct, Donna. It was Mary Lincoln. The quote comes from a letter Mary wrote to Mary Jane Welles on December 6, 1865. The quote is in the latter part of the letter. The "music in my ears" is there.

I'm glad Donna got that right before I guessed Hillary

Who said:

"What do you call Bush when the war he put us in to date has killed almost as many Americans as died on 9/11 and the number of Americans wounded in war is almost triple? [...] By most definitions Bush can be considered a terrorist."

Maybe Jane Fonda?

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 06-27-2013 09:01 AM

Good guess, but not her. It was a man.

Can I make two guesses?

First guess: Filmmaker Michael Moore.

Second guess: Ralph Nader.

Sean Penn?

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 06-27-2013 11:14 AM

Sorry, none of them.
Hint#2: He canvassed for JFK. (But it was JFK who begged him, he didn't want first.)

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Liz Rosenthal - 06-27-2013 11:57 AM

Bill Moyers?

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 06-27-2013 12:03 PM

Nope. Hint#3: He participated in the March on Washington in 1963.

Hint #4: He's a singer, actor and entertainer.

Harry Belafonte?

Best
Rob

Tony Bennet?

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 06-27-2013 02:41 PM

Rob, you've got him.
Your prize is a private Harry Belafonte concert at your place! (But better prepare some canapés in case some unexpected guests come over.)

Wow - Harry Belafonte!

He's a pretty courageous guy.

And he's aged really well for someone who I think is hovering around age 80.

We saw a fantastic documentary about him on our local public television station a few months ago. Very illuminating!

Obviously our main focus on the forum is Abraham Lincoln and family, but it's apparent there is plenty of interest in other presidents, their families, etc. This topic will involve questions on any of our presidents, their wives and families, etc.

Here's my question:

Which president invited his mother to come to the White House, and when she arrived she refused to sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom due to a strong dislike of Abraham Lincoln?

Roger,

This is slightly off-topic, I read once that Winston Churchill, who stayed as a guest in the Lincoln bedroom, claimed to have seen a ghost there. (?)
