Where was Lincoln? - AussieMick - 07-20-2025 04:07 AM

Where was Lincoln when he heard these words?

"What defence can be made by the inhabitants of villages mostly built of wood, of cities unprotected by walls, nay, by a population of men, however high-toned and resolute, whose aged parents demand their care, whose wives and children are clustering about them, against the charge of the war-horse whose neck is clothed with thunder,– against flying artillery and batteries of rifled cannon planted on every commanding eminence,–against the onset of trained veterans led by skilful chiefs?"

RE: Where was Lincoln? - Gene C - 07-20-2025 07:13 AM

Washington DC, did this have to do with the war with Mexico

RE: Where was Lincoln? - AussieMick - 07-20-2025 08:50 AM

Sorry, Gene ... No, not Washington DC . Nothing to do with Mexico.

BTW the question was where was Lincoln when he heard those words ... well, he was present when the words were spoken. But he may not have been listening all the time.

Gene, Washington? You're not too far off.

Apart from anything else, apparently he was not feeling too good.

RE: Where was Lincoln? - AussieMick - 07-20-2025 07:28 PM

Yes, David! Well done.

I was hard on Roger. His Washington-Gettysburg train was close ... But you got there first, David.

Roger would have thought the same. I just answered first.
