Can technology make it feasible to "hear" Lincoln - Juan Marrero - 03-30-2023 05:56 PM Sometime back, I read that, based on the physical characteristics shown in her portrait, computer experts were developing a way to approximate Mona Lisa's speaking voice. I haven't read a follow up article whether they met with any success. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is whether Lincoln's voice may be one day "brought back" via technology. Unfortunately, although he lived well into the 1920s (1926) there does not seem to exist a recording of Robert Todd Lincoln' voice to give us a possible hint as to what his father sounded like. Did anyone else come across an alleged statement by RTL that he thought that Raymond Massey, the actor, sounded most like AL? Mr. Massey was about 30 years old when RTL died, so this is chronologically plausible. I would be surprised if RTL, however, would have visited a theater to see and hear a depiction of his father. In any event, Massey portrayed Lincoln on Broadway in 1938 and on film in 1940, so the RTL comment may be baseless. |
