Mt Pulaski Court House - Dave B - 03-26-2022 07:34 AM My wife and I visited in June 2019. I haven't visited many Lincoln sites, just his Springfield home, his tomb, and the library and museum in Springfield. But this courthouse visit was quite an experience, to stand where Lincoln stood. Not approximately as at other sites but precisely where he was. And there were no other visitors at the time of our visit. Luckily, we are only 3 hours away by car, and 2 1/2 to Springfield. But a visit to this courthouse is very highly recommended. RE: Mt Pulaski Court House - RJNorton - 03-26-2022 08:05 AM Welcome to the forum, Dave! I am including some photos that Joe Di Cola sent me in 2015: RE: Mt Pulaski Court House - Dave B - 03-26-2022 08:28 AM Thank you. I took many of those same kinds of photos. A very interesting place. Thinking about another visit to that courthouse. RE: Mt Pulaski Court House - David Lockmiller - 03-26-2022 11:04 AM Very good photographs from Joe Di Cola that were sent to Roger in 2015. Thanks for posting them, Roger. A future President of the United States and a future U. S. Supreme Court Justice sought justice in that little court house. It had seating for witnesses and interested citizens. RE: Mt Pulaski Court House - GustD45 - 03-26-2022 10:20 PM (03-26-2022 07:34 AM)Dave B Wrote: My wife and I visited in June 2019. RE: Mt Pulaski Court House - Dave B - 03-26-2022 10:42 PM You'll enjoy it. Especially if uncrowded. The Old Brickyard Grill is across the street. RE: Mt Pulaski Court House - Samuel Wheeler - 04-04-2022 09:21 AM I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. It is powerful to stand where Lincoln stood. Mt. Pulaski is one of the few places left where you can do so. How was the condition inside? I last visited around 2017 and the inside was in pretty rough shape. The plaster on the walls and ceiling in the courtroom was in bad condition. I inquired with the state about plans/budget for repairs and was told things were in the works (I think spearheaded by local folks). I think the work has since occurred, at least I hope so. RE: Mt Pulaski Court House - Dave B - 04-04-2022 10:29 AM It's all been redone. Looks great. RE: Mt Pulaski Court House - LincolnMan - 04-05-2022 05:14 AM Awesome. I haven’t been there. Thanks for posting. RE: Mt Pulaski Court House - Dave B - 04-05-2022 09:37 AM One good thing about visiting there is that you're in no hurry to move on and see other Lincoln sites of interest, like you might be in Springfield. Mt Pulaski is so small and isolated that all your attention is focused on the 2nd floor of that courthouse and the pace is leisurely. The tours are self guided...another plus. My wife and I were the only ones in that courtroom. No other visitors. And it was peak season..June 2019 |
