Is April 15 Jinxed - L Verge - 04-27-2019 06:17 PM Saw this on a Tweet Is April 15th cursed? 1865: President Abraham Lincoln dies 1912: RMS Titanic sinks 1989: Hillsborough disaster 2013: Boston Marathon bombing 2019: Notre Dame Cathedral fire RE: Is April 15 Jinxed - AussieMick - 04-27-2019 07:28 PM April 15th? I guess April 14th was Lincoln's unluckiest day, since it was the day he was shot. The death on 15th might be seen as a blessed relief (and, if you're a Believer, the day that he went to meet Willie, Edward, his mother Nancy, his Maker, and to live in eternal peace). So April 14th unlucky; April 15th quite good. The Titanic hit the iceberg on April 14th (bad luck/ poor seamanship) and sank in the early hours of the 15th (yes, bad luck for many passengers ... good luck for those that were picked up or chose not to travel on her) . Da Vinci was born April 15th. He probably didnt enjoy it at the time. Other events April 15th ... 1788 Britain, Netherlands & Prussia sign peace treaty 1817 1st American school for the deaf opens (Hartford, Connecticut) On April 15th Wordsworth and his Sister saw a field of daffodils. ( "I wandered lonely as a cloud ...") 1874 NY legislature passes compulsory education law (1878 Harley Procter introduces Ivory Soap .... Any connection with 1874 above purely coincidental)? 1902 Russian minister of interior and head of secret police, Sipyengin, is assassinated by the 'Terror Brigade' of the Socialist Revolutionaries (yeah, bit tough on poor old Sipy ... maybe saved a few thousand others though?) 1927 Babe Ruth hits 1st of 60 HRs of season (off A's Howard Ehmke) ... Howie went home not feeling great? Babe probably had a smile. 1948 1st Jewish-Arab military battle, Arabs defeated (Yeah, take your pick ... unlucky for some, good for others) April 15th 1962 US national debt above $300,000,000,000 ("if you owe the bank 1 million, you have problems ... if you owe the bank a billion, then the bank has problems" .... if you owe 300,000 million then zippy-doo-dah!) I'll stop there. RE: Is April 15 Jinxed - AussieMick - 04-27-2019 08:38 PM Anyway here's a few April 16th events ... 1972 The Katina P runs aground off of Maputo, Mozambique. 60,000 tons of crude oil spill into the ocean 1975 Cambodian Red Khmer occupy Phnom Penh 1854 San Salvador destroyed by earthquake sorry, must stop. Its quite a miserable task looking for bad events ... I was going to start a thread ... Is January 1st the most jinxed day ? ... and then another Thread ... Is January 2nd the most jinxed day ? ... and then ... and so on ... but, yeah, I got bored. Anyway, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoA5Cz1aisg (monty python is so 20th Century) RE: Is April 15 Jinxed - AussieMick - 04-28-2019 12:26 AM Whilst on the issue of bad luck, has anybody else noticed the fact that both Lincoln and Booth seemed to very much like "the Scottish play" (by Shakespeare)? (No, I'm not going to mention the name ... its not that I'm superstitious ... I just dont believe in pushing my luck) RE: Is April 15 Jinxed - LincolnMan - 04-28-2019 05:50 AM And in the USA taxes are due. RE: Is April 15 Jinxed - ELCore - 04-28-2019 08:49 AM Considering the incalculable number and incredible variety of events that have occurred throughout human history around the world, one could come up with a highly selective list for any and every day of a handful of really good or really bad events, I should think. |
