"George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond celebrates its 75th anniversary this month. Carver Day was Saturday with activities focusing on the life and work of the famed scientist. While numerous articles have been written about his life, often on the adversities he faced as a young black man in Missouri, Kansas and Iowa, I did not know until researching his story was that two influential people in his life had close personal ties with President Abraham Lincoln."
