Have fun shopping, Eva! And if he overcharges you, even if by mistake, make sure he walks all the miles to your residence with the change he owes you.

Mr. Lamon?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 06-21-2013 03:01 PM

Kudos, Bill. Very good. Indeed it was Ward Hill Lamon as quoted in the New York Tribune, July 26, 1885. Lamon said Lincoln told him this during the war.

Thank you sir. I had come across the quote a couple weeks ago and remembered it.

Who said about A. Lincoln:
"Why, if the old Greek had had this man, what trilogies of plays - what epics - would have been made out of him!...But Lincoln, his times, his death - great as any, belong to our own."

Was it Walt Whitman?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 06-22-2013 09:06 AM

Very good, Roger, you hit the mark! He said this in 1879.

I ordered something off Amazon called "Whitman Sampler" thinking it would be a collection of Walt Whitman's.
Was I ever surprised. Evidently in his day he was quite a singer, and went by the nickname of "Slim"

And, Gene,

He just died a few days ago at the age of 90.

Eva,

I haven't read that one. I did read one by the same author called the Lincoln's - Portrait of a Marriage". There were a few things in that book I didn't agree with, but he does have a good writing style thats easy to read.

This lady is the wife of a man mentioned frequently on the forum. Her first name was Lida. To whom was she married?
