Whose home is this? The person has been previously mentioned on this forum.

Someone who was into politics? Union?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 09-22-2019 02:03 PM

Yes to both, Eva.

JAG Joseph Holt's home has been undergoing rehab, so I will guess that it's his.

Excellent, Laurie!

Keep your fingers crossed that restoration work will begin soon at Surratt House. We are in desperate need of exterior work in all areas, and moisture coming in from the outside is creating interior problems. Somehow, government restorations of historic sites always take backseats to other budget items until the situation becomes dire.

Laurie,
Sounds dire with winter around the corner. Fingers crossed.

What event in history happened in this house?

I have no idea, but I will guess it's the Ninian Edwards home where Abraham and Mary were married.

Best
Rob

I am sorry, Rob, but that's not it.

Hint #1: This is a general American history question that is not specifically related to Abraham Lincoln. However, the event which is directly related to this house has been mentioned previously on this forum.

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 10-09-2019 07:26 PM

Was it an event during Lincoln's lifetime? If so, did he know thereof?
Please allow another question - was it a private event (birth, marriage, death,...)?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Steve - 10-10-2019 12:48 AM

Is it the house where President Garfield passed away?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 10-10-2019 05:01 AM

Eva, it did not happen during Lincoln's lifetime, and yes - it was a private event as you mention. Steve, it was not the house where Garfield died.

If I twist my head and screw my eyes up I could kid myself that it almost looks a bit like President Ulysses Grant's house in Galena before there were some major changes.

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 10-10-2019 05:44 AM

Nope, Michael, it's not Grant's home in Galena.
