Brilliant, Gene! Yes, it is the playwright who wrote Our American Cousin, Tom Taylor. What I did not realize until recently is that he also wrote Still Waters Run Deep. Booth originally heard that Lincoln would be attending a matinee performance of Still Waters Run Deep on March 17 at Campbell Hospital. Of course Lincoln did not attend, and no kidnap attempt took place.

Gene, you win free tickets to any Tom Taylor play of your choice.

That was a good, tough trivia question.
Thanks Roger.

One person who was at Ford's Theatre said that (after the shot) Mary Lincoln stood up and yelled the word "Guerrillas." Who was the person who thought he/she heard Mary shout "Guerrillas?"

RE: Assassination Trivia - Thomas Kearney - 07-01-2016 11:18 AM

Nobody, that's a clown question bro!

RE: Assassination Trivia - J. Beckert - 07-01-2016 11:31 AM

Dr. Leale?

RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 07-01-2016 12:32 PM

Would I find the answer in Good's 100 eyewitness accounts?
(I can visualize the scene...)

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 07-01-2016 12:53 PM

Thanks for trying Thomas and Joe, but neither answer is correct.

And yes, Eva, the answer is indeed in Good's book.

One more try. Ferguson?

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 07-01-2016 01:13 PM

Nope, not Ferguson, but it is a name that has been mentioned previously on the forum.

A. C. Richards

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 07-01-2016 02:56 PM

Kudos, Bill. That is correct!

Within A.C. Richards' account of what he saw/heard at Ford's is the following:

"The next instant, Mrs. Lincoln appeared at the front of the box, and, with hands upward and downward in great excitement called out something which I did not understand; but I recognized the word, “Guerrillas.” Of course I knew then that something serious has happened, but what, I did not know at that instant."

Bill, you win best wishes for a wonderful holiday weekend.

Thanks, Roger! And I wish to share my prize with you and all the members and readers of the forum.

Thanks, Bill. I must tell you that it was your article about David Homer Bates' story in the current Surratt Courier that gave me the idea to question A.C. Richards' account today on the forum.
