Practical Strangers - Susan Higginbotham - 07-03-2017 03:42 PM Stephen Berry, who did a book on the Todds a few years back, and Angela Esco Elder have just published Practical Strangers: The Courtship Correspondence of Nathaniel Dawson and Elodie Todd, Sister of Mary Todd Lincoln, a compilation of the couple's correspondence before their marriage in 1862. I scanned many of these letters for my own research before leaving NC, and they make for fascinating reading. The authors also plan a website where one can access the rest of the couple's correspondence and related letters. https://www.amazon.com/Practical-Strangers-Courtship-Correspondence-Perspectives/dp/0820351024/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499101993&sr=8-1&keywords=Practical+Strangers RE: Practical Strangers - RJNorton - 07-04-2017 04:16 AM Thanks for posting this, Susan! Back in 2011 Professor Berry spoke about Abraham Lincoln and the Todds at the 16th annual Lincoln Forum Symposium. There is a video of his talk here. |
