40 Years on the Trail - L Verge - 05-29-2017 08:56 AM In May of 1977, Surratt House Museum launched its first bus trip over the escape route of John Wilkes Booth, and the tradition never stopped. This is our 40th anniversary year for the highly popular tour, and we will soon be mailing out information letters to nearly 100 people who have asked for details on our upcoming September tours. We conduct three tours in the spring and three in the fall, but we also offer the tours to groups such as CWRTs, church groups, senior citizens, etc. One year, we traveled the route twenty-two times in order to meet the demand, and the trip has attracted participants from across the U.S., Canada, England, Czech Republic, and Australia. The full tour is 12-hours long - we tell people we do in twelve hours what Booth did in twelve days. Special groups often request an abbreviated tour, so we accommodate with a trip that includes only D.C. and Maryland sites. We end by standing on the banks of the Potomac and saying, "He went that a way..." So, forty years and still going strong. Visit surrattmuseum.org for further information or call 301-868-1121 to get on the magic mailing list for advanced notification of our next tour schedule. September 2017 tours will be on the 2nd, 9th, and 23rd. The days are already picked for 2018. |
